To promote beekeeping, the Wise Texas Bee Club will once again be offering a beekeeping scholarship to an 8 to 16 year-old student who is interested in becoming a beekeeper.  Applications are due by February 25, 2025.

Scholarship Provides: 

Book: First Lessons in Beekeeping; by Keith S. Delaplane

2 Protective Bee Suit (1 for recipient and 1 for guardian)

Hive- frames and boxes

Hive tools

Nucleus – Queen and attendants

Mentorship for one year (this will be offered by a Wise Texas Bee Club Beekeeper)

Membership into the Wise Texas Bee Club for one year

 

Scholarship Submission Requirements: 

Complete and submit application with essay

Release form signed and submitted with application

Parent or guardian participation 

Approved location for apiary (bee yard)

Phone interview with mentor parent or guardian prior to selection

 

Responsibilities of participant during scholarship time frame: 

Attend one educational class prior to receiving hive to receive equipment and build hives (free to student and parent or guardian)

Recipients are encouraged to attend monthly meetings, workshops and educational classes offered throughout the year

Present at one meeting (introduce themselves, and give hive update)

Present one ‘What’s Blooming’ at one monthly meeting (July or August) 

Keep a journal of beekeeping during the time frame of scholarship (one year)

If the recipient decides to no longer participate in the scholarship, all equipment and hive will need to be surrendered back to the club. 

Recipient will be responsible to maintain hive.
